Dermorphin

Dermorphin is a naturally occurring heptapeptide originally identified in skin secretions of South American frogs. A notable structural feature is the presence of D-alanine, which is unusual among naturally occurring animal peptides.

One of the principal areas of Dermorphin research involves the μ-opioid receptor (MOR). It serves as an experimental tool for investigating receptor binding, receptor activation, and downstream cellular signaling mechanisms associated with opioid receptors.

In neuroscience and pharmacological research, Dermorphin is studied in connection with pain perception and nociceptive signaling, μ-opioid receptor pathways, neurotransmitter release, neuronal responses, and opioid-related central nervous system mechanisms.

Its pronounced opioid receptor activity also makes Dermorphin useful for comparing opioid peptides and receptor ligands in studies involving receptor selectivity, signal transduction, and neuropharmacological responses.
