Orexin B (Hypocretin-2)

Orexin B, also known as Hypocretin-2, is an important component of the orexin/hypocretin neuropeptide system. Mature human Orexin B is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide produced primarily by a specialized population of neurons in the hypothalamus.

Orexin B exerts its biological activity through orexin receptors and has particular research relevance to OX2R (Orexin Receptor 2), while also participating in OX1R-associated signaling.

In neuroscience research, Orexin B is investigated in connection with sleep-wake regulation, neuronal excitability, energy homeostasis, feeding behavior, autonomic function, and neuroendocrine signaling.
