GHRP-6 (Growth Hormone-Releasing Peptide-6)

GHRP-6, or Growth Hormone-Releasing Peptide-6, is a synthetic hexapeptide belonging to the growth hormone secretagogue class of research compounds.

One of the principal research targets associated with GHRP-6 is GHS-R1a (Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor 1a), which is also a major receptor for the endogenous hormone ghrelin. GHRP-6 is therefore frequently used as an experimental tool for investigating the ghrelin/GHS-R1a signaling system.

In neuroendocrine research, GHRP-6 is studied in connection with pituitary growth hormone (GH) release, pulsatile GH secretion, and regulation of the GH/IGF-1 axis, as well as interactions among different growth-hormone-secretagogue signaling mechanisms.

Because the ghrelin/GHS-R1a system is also involved in physiological mechanisms associated with energy homeostasis and feeding behavior, GHRP-6 has been investigated in studies of appetite signaling, energy metabolism, and hypothalamic-pituitary neuroendocrine pathways.

GHRP-6 may also be compared with GHRH-related research peptides to investigate differences and interactions between GHS-R1a and GHRH receptor signaling pathways and their relationships with GH secretion.
